My mint plant has been with me for several years. I keep it in its own container both in winter and summer so it doesn't spread like a weed throughout my garden. For the past several months it has sat indoors near a sunny window with an abundance of dried leaves. One morning while I sat near it, I noticed something wonderful, young green shoots springing up through the forest of unyielding dried stalks. Happy for this discovery I gently removed the dried bits in order to allow the new shoots more sunlight and space. This image is the carnage of my labour. It makes me feel Spring is just around the corner.

Are you enjoying this winter's outdoors? Recently a friend and I went for a hike at Frontenac Provincial Park. It was a gorgeous, bright, windless day. Icy? Yes. We walked with ski poles b/c without them we wouldn't have made the hike. I learned there is a winter camping lecture every season at F.P.P. which I want to attend next year, (this year's is over). I love the thought of winter camping and have wanted to try it for many years now.
